Full of Fruits and Veggies

Think you’re getting five servings of fruits and vegetables a day? Before you pat yourself on the back, consider this: A recent Dutch study of 159 women found that they overestimated serving sizes. Instead of the two pieces of fruit and 200 grams (about 1 1/2 cups) of vegetables the women reported eating, they actually averaged less than one piece of fruit and only about 1/2 cup of vegetables daily, based on measured blood levels of vitamins A and C. The MyPyramid Food Guidance System (www.mypyramid.gov) recommends 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables a day for people on a daily diet of 2,000 calories.
