lb boneless beef round steak, 3/4 inch thick, trimmed of fat, cut into pieces

cups ketchup

cup cola carbonated beverage

tablespoon prepared horseradish

cloves garlic, finely chopped

medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)

burger buns, split
  • 1 In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, arrange beef. Add remaining ingredients except buns; mix well.
  • 2 Cover; cook on High heat setting 5 to 6 hours.
  • 3 Remove beef from slow cooker; place on cutting board. Shred beef with 2 forks; return to slow cooker, and mix well. Cover; cook about 20 minutes longer or until beef is moistened and hot.
  • 4 To serve, with slotted spoon, spoon about 1/3 cup beef mixture into each bun. Mixture can be kept warm for several hours on Low heat setting.

Expert Tips

Barbecued beef is great to have on hand for quick meal. Place the cooked beef in pint-size freezer containers, and freeze up to 4 months. To thaw, place in the refrigerator for about 8 hours, then reheat in a saucepan or in the microwave.
