lb beef top round steak, cut into 1/2-inch cubes

envelope (0.87 to 1.2 ounces) brown gravy mix

cups frozen potatoes O’Brien with onions and peppers (from 28-oz bag)

cup frozen green peas (from 1-lb bag)
  • 1 In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, layer onion, beef, salt, pepper and gravy mix (dry). Pour water over all.
  • 2 Cover and cook on Low heat setting 8 to 9 hours. Meanwhile, thaw potatoes in refrigerator.
  • 3 About 30 minutes before serving, stir thawed potatoes and frozen peas into beef mixture. Increase heat setting to High. Cover and cook 25 to 30 minutes or until potatoes and peas are tender.

This turned out somewhat bland with just salt, pepper, and gravy. Also, with the amount of liquid in the cooker the potatoes turned out very soggy (and actually got lost in the mix). I added some Worcestershire sauce and scooped the mix onto buns. With these modifications it was good enough to make again! The beef was very tender!

Everyone loved this dinner. It made alot! I cut the meat in strips and added onion soup mix instead of fresh onion. Kids 9,7,and 5 finished their plates.

I was disappointed that the meat didn't stay in chunks. It fell apart so much that some family members eat it as a sandwich.
