cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
2
tablespoons shortening
1
tablespoon granulated sugar
2
teaspoons baking powder
1/2
teaspoon salt
2/3
to 3/4 cup water
Pumpkin Honey

1/4
cup honey
1/4
teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8
teaspoon ground nutmeg
Vegetable oil

  • 1 In medium bowl, mix flour, shortening, granulated sugar, baking powder and salt with spoon. Stir in enough of the water to make stiff dough; let rest 15 minutes. In small bowl, stir together all Pumpkin Honey ingredients; set aside.
  • 2 In 3-quart saucepan, heat 2 inches oil to 375°F. On lightly floured surface, roll dough into 15x12-inch rectangle. Cut into 3-inch squares.
  • 3 Fry a few squares at a time in oil, turning occasionally, until golden brown. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels; sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve warm with Pumpkin Honey.

Expert Tips

Sopaipillas are deep-fried pastries. The Pumpkin Honey adds a wonderful sweet-spice flavoror just dip in honey—that tastes great, too.
