  • 1 Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until the onions are soft.
  • 2 Add the broth, tomatoes (with juice), beans, and pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes, or until the pasta is al dente. Add the Swiss chard or spinach and cook, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes, or until the chard or spinach is wilted.

Expert Tips

The Institute of Medicine recommends that we get about 28 grams of fiber a day based on a 2000 calorie diet. Enjoy this tasty soup on your way to that goal.

Great northern or other white beans can be used instead of the cannellini beans.

This was a very inexpensive, easy to make, fast and delicious. My brother couldn’t believe how good and tasty it was without actual meat and with so few calories. Definitely a winner!!!

This is a great recipe! I added a little more pasta to make it thicker and it turned out to be a quick delicious dinner. My kids loved it too!

Fall is in the air, so I was craving something warm, tasty, and hearty. This soup was very quick and easy to make, especially after a long day of work. I followed the recipe exactly, but added fresh ground pepper to season. I definitely recommend this recipe. It's a good feeling knowing how tasty AND healthy this recipe is.
