cup maple-flavored syrup

teaspoon ground nutmeg

teaspoon ground allspice

cups chopped peeled apples (3 medium)

cup chopped walnuts
Glaze
1/2
cup powdered sugar

tablespoons maple-flavored syrup
1
tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
Garnish

tablespoon chopped walnuts
  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 12-cup fluted tube cake pan with shortening; lightly flour.
  • 2 In large bowl, beat granulated sugar, brown sugar and 2/3 cup butter with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat in 2/3 cup syrup and eggs until blended, scraping bowl occasionally. On low speed, beat in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and allspice until combined, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in apples and 1/2 cup walnuts. Spread batter evenly in pan.
  • 3 Bake 55 to 65 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool upright in pan 15 minutes. Place serving plate upside down over pan; turn plate and pan over. Remove pan. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  • 4 In small bowl, mix glaze ingredients until smooth; spoon over top of cake. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon walnuts.
