  • 2 Heat oven to 375º. Generously grease cookie sheet with shortening. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick on generously floured cloth-covered surface. Cut into 3-inch circles. Sprinkle with sugar. Place about 1 1/2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  • 3 Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched lightly in center. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

Expert Tips

Molasses cookies are an old-fashioned favorite. These oversize cookies are cakelike and tender, with the added bonus of being low in fat. Make a glaze by stirring 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons fat-free (skim) milk, 2 drops of vanilla and, if desired, 2 drops butter flavor in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over cookies.

I made these cookies and they taste pretty good, but they don't look anything like the picture. I left them in the fridge overnight and the dough was still too sticky to manage. Even after covering my counter in flour, it was super difficult just to get the dough from the counter to the cookie sheet. Is there a secret to doing these?
