"Healthified" Cheddar and Bacon Quiche
Recipe Tip
What is "Healthified"?
We've replaced ingredients with great-tasting alternatives to create better-for-you recipes that are just as yummy as the original.
Success
For the best results we recommend using a mixture of eggs and egg whites. We tested this recipe using fat-free egg product, and found the flavor to be a bit bland and the texture slightly curdled.
Time-Saver
Look for cooked bacon strips near the lunch meat items at the grocery store.
83% less sat fat • 62% less fat • 25% more calcium than the original recipe—see the comparison. Say oui to this slimmer quiche - every slice will be a pièce de résistance! From eatbetteramerica.
Prep Time:20 min
Start to Finish:1 hr 5 min
makes:8 servings

1 1/2cups Bisquick Heart Smart® mix
2tablespoons canola oil
3tablespoons boiling water
4slices bacon, cooked, crumbled
1/2cup shredded reduced-fat sharp Cheddar cheese (2 oz)
4medium green onions, thinly sliced (1/4 cup)
2whole eggs
2egg whites
1 1/4cups fat-free (skim) milk
1/2teaspoon ground mustard
1/4teaspoon salt
1/2teaspoon red pepper sauce
1.Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 9-inch glass pie plate with cooking spray. In medium bowl, stir Bisquick mix and oil until blended. Add boiling water; stir vigorously until soft dough forms (1 to 2 teaspoons more water can be added if necessary). Press dough in bottom and up side of pie plate.
2.Sprinkle bacon, cheese and onions over crust. In medium bowl, beat eggs, egg whites, milk, mustard, salt and pepper sauce with wire whisk until blended. Pour into crust. Cover edge of crust with strips of foil to prevent excessive browning.
3.Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until center is set. Remove foil strip. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

The BEST
I tried this recipe, and fed it to my husband. He loved it. It is one of the best quiche recipes, PERIOD. Easy to make and delicious!!

I was surprised at how much I liked this. I really didn't miss the higher fat pie crust at all. It was super easy to put together and reheated well the next morning. I substituted turkey bacon and 2% colby jack cheese because it's what I had and thought it tasted great (and lower the calorie content even more!)
