medium unpeeled cooking apples, coarsely chopped (4 cups)

cup water

tablespoons finely chopped crystallized ginger

tablespoon packed brown sugar
1/4
teaspoon ground cinnamon, if desired
  • 1 In 3-quart saucepan, mix all ingredients except cinnamon. Cover and heat to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer covered 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft.
  • 2 With spoon, crush apples to desired consistency. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve warm or cold.
