Is Fish Really Brain Food?

Is Fish Really Brain Food?

For fewer “senior moments,” you might want to go fish—on your plate.

Emerging research has found a connection between increased cognitive ability and consuming fish. One study of seniors found that those who ate more than 10 grams per day of fresh, frozen, or canned fish and seafood, or fish products such as cod liver and fish oil, had better scores on memory and cognitive tests than those who ate less fish. And seniors who ate the most fish had the best test scores. They also scored better on information-processing speed and verbal fluency tests.

Surprisingly, the beneficial effects came from both lean fish and fatty fish known for their high omega-3 fatty-acid content. More research is needed to explore the connection.
