This Game Day, Get Healthified!

Score better nutrition at your party using these simple strategies. We’re betting you won’t miss those extra calories.

It’s game day, your friends are over, and you know the usual half-time routine: salty chips, fatty dips, and other high-calorie snacks that have you reaching for a napkin to wipe the grease off your fingers. But really, who needs all those calories—and all the guilty feelings?

Kick off with a slam dunk dip.
Let these ideas inspire you:
  • Bean dips are versatile and real crowd pleasers. Plus, beans are low in fat and good sources of fiber. Try our Red Pepper Hummus or Healthified Seven-Layer Taco Dip with its zippy chili bite. Or season mashed black beans with fat-free sour cream, sliced green onions, and chili powder.
  • Everyone loves guacamole, and it provides heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. For a twist, blend mashed ripe avocado with fresh tomato salsa, lime juice, and chopped cilantro. Just watch portions to keep fat in check.
  • Make a light and creamy spinach dip with Green Giant® frozen spinach, reduced-fat cream cheese, and fat-free yogurt.

Play offense with healthy dippers. Skip the usual chips. You’ll get more vitamins, minerals, and fiber and less fat by serving whole wheat crackers, baked tortilla chips, toasted pita bread wedges, sweet pepper strips, crisp jicama sticks, and other veggies.

Intercept temptation with crunchy snacks. You don’t have to skip the munchables. The trick is to make them healthy with whole grains and nuts that go easy on the salt.
  • Mix toasted almonds with whole grain cereal squares, low-fat pretzels, and raisins.
  • Season air-popped popcorn with olive oil and paprika.

Score big taste with less fat and calories. When it’s time for more substantial food, keep it fun but light. That’s easy when you serve one or more of these crowd pleasers:
  • Turkey meatballs topped with sweet and sour sauce (don’t forget the toothpicks)
  • Sweet potato or zucchini oven fries. They’re just as delicious as their deep-fried cousins. Feeling adventurous? Serve up our Asian-Style Oven-Fried Sweet Potatoes, with just 130 calories per serving.

You can serve a satisfying, party-friendly spread with these tasty dishes and give your body plenty of nutrients -- and far fewer calories -- at the same time. That’s a game plan to feel super good about.
