As part of my plan for a healthier heart, this week I parked my car 10 minutes away from my place of work.  My "forced exercise" gives me 10 minutes in the morning of crisp winter air and helps me unwind after work!

You might look into a pair of Z-Coil shoes (the ones with the springs on the heels) - they're kind of expensive, but they really do work great!  My husband had bad back problems, and within a week of wearing Z-Coils he stopped having back problems.  Also you still need to work in some excercise - maybe you should start smaller - take your 2 15 minute breaks and lunch and put some comfy tennis shoes on and go outside and walk around your office building for 5 minutes.  Then work up from there - twice around, start parking 2 spots further than usual, then 4, then 8, then 15 - if your consistent about it, and make sure you don't add any food/calories to your diet, then it should start getting easier - just little baby steps.  Good luck!!!

Great encouragement!  I knew someone who did nothing to change their diet, but started walking only 1  mile everyday.  He lost 20 pounds in a year.  I know 1 mile is hard at first, but the suggestion to start small is really the way to go.  I suggest that you do make small changes to your diet as well.  That will help you tremendously.  For instance, instead of having a sandwich, make two wraps of sliced turkey or ham with lite mayo or mustard wrapped in green leaf lettuce.  Add a slice or two of bell pepper to that and maybe green onion.  that way, you are sneaking in a vegetable serving.  You won't miss the bread and it's filling. By the way, a serving of veggies is only 1/2 a cup.  You will be amazed at what you gain by taking those baby steps as suggested. Also, remember, the word "diet"  doesn't mean losing weight, it is what you eat everyday.  Your "diet" can be full of cookies, cakes, unhealthy breads, and too much red meat or your diet can be foods that are good for your body.  It's your choice. Best Wishes for a new and healthier you.

    Hey Peanut,

Sounds like you have been given some great advice.  Perhaps you should get your feet checked by a podiatrist ~ you made also need arch supports.  As you lose the weight, you will notice that your feet will start to feel better. Good luck, we are all wishing you the best.

I have a treadmill, beside my bed, in front of my TV, that I hardly ever use.  However, I do have a Leslie Sansone "Walk a mile in 15 minutes tape" that I've been doing faithfully for only 2-3 weeks.  Sometimes I wonder if that's cheating or is that considered a good workout?  Does anyone have an answer for me??  Thanks

I love that you do this.. Whenever I go to Wal-Mart or some place that has a very large parking lot I always park as far away as I can and walk to the front door.. you know what?  It helps and I never have to worry about coming out to a dented car door!! :)

argentina, I'm no expert, but I know that 15 minutes is less than the recommended amount of time for exercise. However, if you are doing that everyday, that is more than many people can say! Any physical activity is good physical activity. Maybe try working in some stretching before and after, or mixing up your walking mile with some jump rope...?
