According to the American Heart Association, a male your age should eat about 2200 calories a day if you are not active. If you are moderatly active then eat about 2400 - 2800.

I have been working with a trainer for about three months, and I can tell you that you really need to get some cardio into your daily routine. Use a tredmill or a recumbent bike for a minimum of 20 minutes and work your way up to 60 minutes. You should also add some weight training to your routine every other day.

I know that it is hard to work out by yourself so try and get a friend to do it with you or join a gym, they have trainers that may be able to help you get started.

eat six small meals a day but do it gradually because your body have to adjust to eating healthy and exercising. you can start exercising and work your wait up to 30 minutes. find you a friends to exercise with along the process.

Good for you on the eating better but bad on only consuming 1200 calories a day!!  The post about the correct calorie intake is correct..anywhere from 2200 to 2800 calories depending on your activity level is where you should be on your calorie consumption.  Also, the post about the 6 small meals is great advice..you will actually find yourself having a hard time eating that often at first.  Make sure to eat lots of fiber... fiber keeps you full without filling out the waistline (beans, veggies) and eat whole grains (whole wheat cereal or bread)..

    Keep up the good work!!
