    I am new to healthy cooking and I have a question.  I see on a lot of reviews that people use applesause in place of oil.  I would like to know do you replace the exact amount of applesause for the oil?  Do you need to change anything else in the reciepe if you use applesause? 


    Thanks for any help you can give to me.

    Hi,


    I have baked  substituting applesauce for oil. Yes you do replace the same amount of applesauce for the oil. It always works out great and my kids have no clue I changed the recipe. Enjoy!!!

    Can you sub the applesause for any recipe calling for oil or just baked goods. I'm assuming Veg Oil is being subbed. thanks!

    Can applesauce also be substituted for butter or margarine in baked goods?

    I've just recently started cooking with applesauce in place of oil and I can say that on some recipes you do need at least half the amount of oil..for example, last week I made the blueberry whole wheat muffins and one batch I made with half the oil replacing the other half with applesauce and the next batch I substitued with all applesauce and the the outsides of the muffins burned on the second batch!  I made them again using the previous method (1/2 oil & 1/2 applesauce) and the muffins were perfect so I think with some recipes you can only substitute half of the oil..now, I've not ventured into other areas with subustituing applesauce I think it's really only a baking thing.

    You can also use pumpkin in replace of butter as well and it works out well.
