I have 3 children - the youngest is almost 3 weeks old!  I only gained about 15 lbs during my pregnancy which was great since I was already overweight.  A week after having the baby I tried on my old jeans just to check the damage and was mildly surprised to find that they fit.  A little snugger in spots than they used to but at least I didn't have to lie on the bed to button them!  Smile  I checked the scale and I am actually down to my pre-preg weight minus five extra lbs.  However, I still want to loose another 45 lbs that I picked up while my husband and I were dating and during our marriage.  I just thought since I am on leave I will try to sneak in work-outs and I hope to loose some before I return to work.  My biggest problem is that I live with a husband who is a sweet eater and though he would like to see me loose weight if I want to do it, he is not a motivator!  On top of that I have a newborn who is up every 2-3 hours to eat and since I am on leave, of course I am the one loosing the most sleep.  If anyone has any tips or advice I would love to hear it!

It's important to be careful about losing weight during the first weeks postpartum because your body is still trying to recover.

Starting about 3 weeks after my son was born (he's 8 months now) my husband and I would take him on short walks around the neighborhood right after a feeding.  He got a great nap and we got some exercise.  I wait until he was 8 weeks or so before starting an exercise video every other morning.  By then his sleep schedule was more solid and if I went to bed when he did, I could wake up with enough time to work out and shower before he got hungry.  I gradually brought up the intensity level and went from 20 mins to 30 while adding toning.

The most important things to keep in mind those first weeks are to rest, eat right, and drink plenty of water.  I kept the house stocked up with cheese, crackers, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.  I would recommend asking your doctor about increasing activity at the 6 week check up .

Hey there.  I'd highly reccomend the Sparkpeople website.  It's totally free and you have access to so much!! You can set up your own page and make it totally private or open to share with friends.  You can enter your stats once you join and they will let you know how many calories you should be taking in (it's a very sensible range!), You can journal all your foods you eat and they have a library of over 10,000 items that come up so you can see how many calories they are and count them as you enter them and then it subtracts from your daily allotment.  You will meet so many cool people like yourself.  My name is the same as on this website.  Check it out!! www.sparkpeople.com.   Remember, totally free and safe and if you'd like they will email you daily with motivational articles, educational ones and workouts to help you target different areas.  Good luck on your weightloss journey and good luck with the newborn!!  I have about 75 to lose, but have lost 10 lbs. in the past 3 weeks.  Smile
