Football playoffs are coming to an end and at my house, we are gearing up for the second biggest eating event of the year (Thanksgiving is number one). The problem with game day is that we eat during the pre-game show, throughout the first half, all through halftime and well into the fourth quarter! Whether you are hosting or bringing a dish to someone else’s party, make sure you have some healthy options.
What are you planning for your super spread? A must-have is guacamole. For some reason, chips and guac go so well with football!
Guacamole is one of those foods that is high in fat and therefore calories, but it also has amazing nutritional value. Guacamole is made primarily from avocados which are high in monounsaturated fat. In the old days I used to be afraid of all fats, even the healthy stuff. I thought eating fat would make me fatbut I have learned that guacamole isn’t scary and is good for me if I don’t overdo it.. Check out this healthified garlic guacamole. It has 45 percent fewer calories than the traditional recipe and lots of chunky tomato to scoop onto veggies or tortilla chips. Still not convinced? Try the option to use pureed frozen peas in place of one avocado to lower the calories even more.
Since I know you don’t have much time, I took the liberty of putting together a sample menu for your game day buffet. All recipes are from eatbetteramerica.com. If you don’t like my picks, search through the recipes and find your own winners.
