Today I made a pledge to the Pound For Pound Challenge. I've been thinking about participating and mentioned last week that I usually don't like these type of commitments. Why now?
Last night I watched the season premier of The Biggest Loser, knowing I would have the opportunity to meet Bob Harper from the show (yes, the picture below is proof!). He was here at General Mills to help kick off the PFP Challenge, The Biggest Loser and Feeding America partnership event for our employees. It was a standing-room-only crowd!
Bob is one inspiring and motivating guy who walks the walk about which he talks. Any new ideas in the short talk he gave? Not really, but a different perspective and a rally to take control - Lose Weight & Help Feed America at the beginning of a new year is timely and gives me the extra push! With the demand for emergency food assistance up by 30-50% in just the last 6 months, I can help others (more food) while helping myself (less fluff). I hope you're interested in joining, too. On a different note, Friday night we're having friends over for a post-holiday dinner. The forecast is for snow and temps in the 20's. If your weather is similar, you might want to warm up with the same menu. Crusty whole-grain bread and a nice red wine will make it complete - enjoy!
Slow Cooker Beef Stew with Shiitake Mushrooms - love coming home to dinner! For bolder flavor, I add 3 oz dried mushrooms and increase the seasonings.
Garden Medley Salad - like the caraway twist to on-hand ingredients. My caraway is on the older side, so may crush it a bit while chopping the garlic.
Pear-Cranberry Crisp - new recipe to try. I'll sprinkle the cranberries over the pears before toppings so they can plump with moisture from pears.
