William Thies
V.P. Medical and Scientific Affairs
William Thies, Ph.D., a senior scientist and experienced educator, is vice president of the Alzheimer's Association's Medical and Scientific Affairs Division. He is responsible for strengthening the association's relationship with the scientific and medical communities domestically and internationally, and shaping and leading the association’s research program, including grant making.
From 1988 to 1998, Thies worked for the American Heart Association (AHA) at its headquarters in Dallas, most recently as director of the Stroke Division. Before that, he served as AHA's director of emergency cardiac care. Prior to joining the AHA, Thies held faculty positions at Indiana University and the University of Pittsburgh.
