High Fructose Corn Syrup

I am brand new to this website! I have been struggling with my weight for the last five years. Although I understand all the concepts of diet and nutrition it is a huge struggle to follow through. I am also a nurse and everyday I see the effects of not taking care of ourselves. The scary part of all of this is patients are getting younger and younger and sicker.

Enough of my rambling. I love Dr Oz and try to follow his general rule that if sugar, salt, high fructose corn syrup, enriched flour and fat are the first five ingredients to avoid it. Finding breads t products that don't have enriched flour is a sturggle. Finding foods that don't have high fructose corn syrup is even worse. My major frustration is that all but one yogurt in my grocery store has high fructose corn syrup and often times it is not available. Since I am a working mother I prefer to buy at one store and the economics is also an issue (why is eating right so expensive?).

How does everyone else handle this?????

Adding Salba to recipes

I recently discovered the health benefits of Salba (chia seed). When I went to the health food store to get it, I was told that several medical professionals purchase it regularly. My nurse friend is one of them. It can be added to anything -- is tasteless. I wonder if anyone has an oatmeal cookie recipe with Salba as an ingredient (also with whole wheat flour).

Help

I had bariatric gastric bypass surgery 9 months ago, and have started having trouble staying "with the program". I haven't been doing my walking and have gone back to my old habit of "grazing". I haven't had anyone to talk to about any of this, (there is a support group, but only once a month). If there is anyone else out there needing someone to talk to about similar problems, please post a note & I'll be watching for it.

Am I missing anything?

I started eating healthier about two months ago, the first few weeks went by fast, as I lost about four pounds per week. But then it all slowed down, and I totally stopped. I went online and read an article that said I should eat at least 1200 calories a day. I immedietly changed my diet and lost two pounds per week for two weeks. Once again it came to a halt. I kept it up for about two or three more weeks havin no success, then went back online. I read more about eating 1200 calories, and found that it's not totally true. I then found my basal metabolic rate and realized that I should be eating at least 1600 calories, and I was keeping my body in starvation mode by NOT doing so. Well I started that this past Sunday, and now I've started to loose again. I also do twenty minutes of excercize a day, and about ten minutes of pilates. then another ten minutes workout for my abbs.

After all this, I try to have lots of vegetables and fruit and whole grains. Am I missing anything? From your own opinions, am I doing what I should be to loose? I need to loose about twelve more pounds. I don't want to stop loosing again.

Thanks

~Dannielle~
