too sweet!
i made this for thanksgiving and everyone liked it except it was so sweet you could only eat one bite. i recommend omitting the added sugar and use fresh sweet potato's instead of canned. it is sweet enough without the unhealthy added sugar!

less fat does not always equal healthy
I agree with some other reviewers. Too much sugar. I made a similar recipe with fresh (not canned in syrup!) sweet potatoes and in place of regular flour, I used whole wheat flour. I believe I even left out the sugar in the potato mix because sweet potatoes are, well, sweet and I added some cinnamon.

Sweet Potato Casserole
Hi,
I hope to make this recipe for Christmas. I would like it better if your color choice on your web page was easier to read. The pale blue color leaves a lot to be desired. Please update your web page to a darker print.
Thank you.

Sweet Potato Casserole
We made this casserole for the first time on Thanksgiving and it was great. Everyone loved it! Thank you for such great recipes! Next time we will try some of the substitutions suggested by other reviews... but we had to try the original first!

Do not be scared away, sugars incorrect
I ran recipe in an online analyzer, and the sugar count is 30 percent less than reported. I suspect UNDRAINED canned in syrup was used instead of drained solids, the basis of my correction. Using Splenda for the white sugar, as another rated tried with success, would drop the sugar count 17.5 g. As to another reviewer complaining about the carb count, well 5 ounces of moist (boiled, mashed) sweet potato has 25 carbs per serving to begin with. Tasted great, but would modify with Splenda or Equal.

fast and delicious
I made this to go with our Easter ham and it was wonderful. I omitted the margarine that was required for the topping, decreased the sugar in the mix to 1/4 cup and it came out really good. This will become a holiday meal staple. Thanks for another winner!

I love this recipe. I make it every Sunday and eat it all week. I use fresh yams and substitute Splenda for the sugar in the yam mixture. I use light soy milk rather than skim. I leave out the salt. I substitute walnuts for pecans because they are better for your heart. Enjoy!

very good!
I thought this was better than a lot of the full fat versions I have tried. They are often way too sweet. I used fresh sweet potatoes rather than canned. My family fought over what was left in the dish after their first servings. They never guessed it was "healthified".

Even Healthier
I used fresh sweet potatoes. I added 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce and eliminated the granulated sugar and milk. This was a big hit at our holiday dinner.

Enjoyed very much
My old sweet potato casserole uses over a stick of butter, so I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful this light version was. My husband, who usually thinks that anything low fat is low on flavor, loved it.

Can't even tell it's "Healthified"
This recipe has now become a tradition at my family's Thanksgiving dinner. It is delicious and full of flavor, without all of the excess fat and sugar. I prepared the potatoes and topping separately the day before. Then on Thanksgiving Day, I simply sprinkled on the topping and baked!
This fulfilled my goal of adding a healthy tradition for my family. You won't even miss the fat and sugar!

Apple Cider & Pumpkin Pie Spice
Instead of granulated sugar in the sweet potatoes, we added 1/2 cup of apple cider. This reduced the simple carbs and also added the natural fiber from the apples. Then we took out one of the milks to equalize the liquid in the recipe. Added 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice to the pumpkin and mixed it into all wet ingredients. We also used less fat in the crumble topping and just sprayed the top with a spritz of regular pam to get it to brown nicely. This reduced the fat.
After the first dish of this re-worked reciped disappeared overnight, I doubled it the next time.

recipe changes
I changed the sugar with Splenda and the brown sugat in the topping to Splenda Brown Sugar. I use light margarine with fewer calories. My family loves it and can't tell the difference.

Sugared
It may be low in fat but why all the sugar. The sweet potatoes are in syrup then more sugar. How can this be healthy? It has way too many carbs
