There's a surprise hit of maple syrup waiting at the bottom of the cup in this easy-to-make custard! From eatbetteramerica.
Prep Time:15 min
Start to Finish:3 hr 15 min
makes:4 servings
1 3/4cups fat-free (skim) milk
1egg
2egg whites
3tablespoons sugar
1/2teaspoon maple flavor
1/8teaspoon salt
4teaspoons maple-flavored syrup
2cups cut-up fruit
1.Heat oven to 350°F. In 1-quart saucepan, heat milk just to boiling; cool.
2.In small bowl, beat egg, egg whites, sugar, maple flavor and salt; gradually stir in milk. Pour into four 6-ounce custard cups. Drop 1 teaspoon maple syrup carefully onto center of mixture in each cup (syrup will sink to bottom).
3.Place cups in 9-inch square pan on oven rack. Pour very hot water into pan to within 1/2 inch of tops of cups. Bake about 45 minutes or until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Remove cups from water. Let stand 15 minutes.
4.Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours but no longer than 12 hours. Unmold at serving time. Top with fruit. Immediately cover and refrigerate any remaining custards.

Fake Syrup is Healthy?
Since when is cloyingly sweet maple-flavored syrup healthy. Leave out the maple extract(also fake) and use the real maple syrup.

Surprisingly Easy
This recipe was extremely easy to make and tasted very good. Perfect for the after dinner sweet tooth. I used home grown plums on top. It was hard not to eat more than one!
