Miles for Your Mood
(6 comments)
Need a body-image boost? Tack some extra time onto your next walk.
In a pilot study by researchers at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, researchers spent six months tracking the progress of young overweight women who exercised either 30 or 60 minutes a day, five days a week. Over the course of the study, the hour-long exercisers reported improvements in their feelings toward their bodies that were four times greater than the improvements experienced by the half-hour group. This finding jibes with the recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences, which recommends that everyone aim for 60 minutes of exercise each day for better overall health. Ready, set, walk!

I've started a walking program and have implemented resistance bands. I've increased my goal to two miles at 30 minutes per day. I feel that my mood has changed for the better and hope that my PMS symptoms subside next month. I wonder how many calories I've burned today? I weight 180.

I can't tell you how much my mood is improved and my energy levels are boosted by my workout routines. I workout in the morning which means I get to carry that "high" all day. It really makes a difference and if I don't workout for some reason I feel lethargic and much grumpier the rest of the day.

I have noticed that now, I feel so energized after I have worked because I work out hard but not to the point that I can't move after wards. On days that I don't exercise, I feel real slow and I find myself getting up and doing stuff around the house before I collapse on the bed and never get up and give up!
So exercising did help my mood and I am a lot more happier.

I totally agree!!! I used to weight 382 lbs and I am only 5'6 I have a small frame. I kept 180 of that off for 11 yrs and this summer I will be 40 so I committed to getting down to my goal weight and finally getting the 14 lbs of skin removed from my stomach. Well I started working out in jan.about 40 min 7 days a week biggest looser dvd's highly reccomend then joined my son's gym 5 days a week for at least 60 min. I am now 30 lbs less and 4 sizes smaller and the dr. said I am in great shape for the surgery hooray!!! I am a size 10 but after skin removal will be a size 6. stick with the long work outs they will change your life!!!!

OMG! How true this is...I feel WONDERFUL after working on the tredmill or the elipticle burning my 800-1000 calories a day v. half an hour and 500 calories-especially seeing the scales tip favorably! I argue with myself to keep going and before I know it I am done! I feel as if I can accomplish anything throughout the day!

I just have to say that I agree with this. Me and a friend of mine from work tried the gym 3 times a week with hr long increments and it was great and all but we just got burnt out. So we decided to change what we where doing. Our new routine is taking a walk after work 5 days out of the week. BIG improvement not only is it fun we can talk and we are still getting our workout. I have also seen a signifigant improment in my weight. Two thumbs up.
