The Power of Apples and Pears
(3 comments)
Want the antioxidant benefits of wine without the giggle factor?
According to research published in the
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the combination of apples and pears has been found to rank alongside red wine as a source of flavonoids. Results from a 16-year study of more than 34,000 postmenopausal women showed that consuming apples and pears or red wine was associated with a lower risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease.
To boost your intake, keep apples and pears on your kitchen counter within easy reach. For a quick dessert, microwave sliced apples and pears with fruit juice and cinnamon until soft.

i love cold apples and room temperature pears. by keeping the pears on the counter they are juicy and soft then cut the apples fresh from the fridge in slivers or what have you and top with clear apple juice with a few ice cubes or crushed ice and a sprinkle of cinamon or nutmeg this with a hot cup of mint tea is a favorite evening desert around 8:00 pm. i just have to have something later to get to sleep. one of my treats

I have heard that if you eat the seeds of an organic apple it is an anti cancer food. There is a certain vitamin in it and they tast almost like almonds!

More power is that apples and pears are very low on the glycemic index, (which can mean that you feel full longer) provide plenty of fiber and, as everyday snack, can help reduce weight. I am all for this powerhouse combo!
