Question.
Cristi, Acme

I’m trying to lose weight, so I signed up for an 8 A.M. cardio class. What’s a good eating strategy to fuel my workout but not leave me starving by lunchtime?

Dianne Scheinberg, MS, RD, LDN Responds:

Bracket your workout with a little bit of food. Be sure to eat something before and after the workout. Perhaps at 7 A.M. have a piece of fruit or a slice of toast, something light but with carbohydrates to help fuel your workout. Then after the workout at 9 A.M. or so, drink plenty of water to rehydrate and have a regular breakfast with a mix of carbohydrates (whole grains, fruits) and protein (milk, eggs, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt, soymilk). If you can include some fiber in your post-workout meal, it may help you to feel full for a longer period of time.
